Camilo, international singer: "My parents never told me I was a champion or that I would be recognized; they never wished it for me."

Camilo , one of today's most influential Latin artists , is currently touring Spain with his fifth album. The Colombian rose to worldwide fame with his song Tutu alongside Pedro Capó. But long before he was heard on Spanish radio, he was already a well-known singer in his home country after his participation in the reality show 'Factor XS' . He talks about his time on the music show, his origins, and his path to success on the podcast El sentido de la birra , hosted by Ricardo Moya.

Camilo Echeverry has established himself as a key figure in Spanish-language music. Since the release of the song that catapulted him to fame in 2019, his career has been filled with chart-topping songs.

His time on the XS Factor contest

During the chat with Moya, Camilo recalled his beginnings on the "XS Factor" in Colombia, a show he won in 2007 when he was just a teenager. One of the things that most impacted him was the attitude of the other contestants' parents: "Before going out to sing, the other kids' parents would tell them: this is your chance. Remember, to be a champion you have to give it your all. Keep your eyes on the goal. There's only one first place. Give it your all. Everyone is watching you. This could be the first day of the rest of your life."

In contrast to that competitive environment, Camilo confessed that his parents never imposed goals on him or pressured him to succeed. “My parents never told me I was a champion. They never told me I was a winner. They never told me I was destined for great things or that I would one day be recognized. They never wished that for me,” he stated. Humbly, he acknowledged that he entered the competition without expectations, without seeking an opportunity: “I went there for nothing. I had no ambitions for anything. I played the guitar and sang because I really liked it.”

His first contact with television was in 2006, when he participated in Factor X alongside his sister Manuela, although he was eliminated. A year later he returned and won, which allowed him to record his first album under his full name, Camilo Echeverry . In 2015 he moved to Miami, where he expanded his career as a composer, writing songs for artists such as Becky G, Natti Natasha, Anitta, Bad Bunny and Sebastián Yatra, with millions of views on digital platforms.
